The Sugar Engineers' mill coupling is designed specifically to be flexible enough to allow the top roll of the mill to rise in the mill cheeks as the cane load under the roll increases, without imposing excessive loads on either the mill bearings and cheeks or on the drive gearbox. Unlike the conventional coupling box and tail bar, the Sugar Engineers' cardan shaft coupling will not stick, bind or jam; there are no wearing parts that need regular maintenance or replacement. The Sugar Engineers' cardan shaft coupling is more compact, lighter and more elegant than the 'rope couplings'
